Prerequisite & Corequisite Clearance

A prerequisite is a requirement you must meet before enrolling in a more advanced course. This is usually a completed course, but equivalent skills or prior experience may also be accepted. A corequisite must be taken at the same time, or in some cases prior to, the desired course. Pre/corequisite requirements can be found in the SCHEDULE OF CLASSES.

How you can be cleared:

  1. Assessment. Assessment results may satisfy some English, ESL and/or math prerequisites and/or corequisites. Please refer to the Assessment Center for options and details.

  2. Completed Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Courses. If you passed the prerequisite or corequisite course at SBCC with a "C" or higher, you will automatically be cleared to enroll.

  3. Equivalent/Substitute Coursework. Submit a request for evaluation of coursework completed at another school. See Prerequisite Instructions & Forms for information.

  4. Other Options. In some cases prerequisites may be satisfied through means other than coursework; for example, a student who is already fluent in a foreign language but does not have any foreign language coursework. See Prerequisite Instructions & Forms to submit a request for evaluation.
